Fitness Kickboxing, also called Cardio Kickboxing, became a popular form of exercise in the late 1990's. Although Kickboxing programs vary between studios, the concept of each program is the same—to teach basic self-defense techniques in a non-intimidating, non-committal fashion. Traditional martial arts, such as Kung Fu, Karate, and Tae Kwon Do, require participants to make a commitment to practice and improve on each technique before they can advance to the next level. Many individuals want to learn martial arts, but don’t have the time for the commitment involved in doing so. That’s why Fitness Kickboxing is the answer to many people's needs. Fitness Kickboxing introduces basic self-defense techniques in an environment similar to an aerobics program. Class Descriptions Fitness Kickboxing with Bags begins with a warm-up followed by punching, kicking and blocking techniques (in the air) to limber the body. The class is then followed by approximately 15-20 minutes of punching and kicking on bags (aka Wavemasters which are punching bags that are water filled at the base). The class concludes with a muscle conditioning segment and cool-down stretches. Handwraps and gloves (available for purchase at the studio) are recommended when using bags. Benefits of Kickboxing
